The Artist

Jackie Jackson is a Melbourne based Printmaker and Artist across a variety of mediums, known for combining her extensive graphic design and illustration knowledge to focus on composition and the use of line, colour and technique to create unique Printmaking and artistic creations.

Jax Studio Melbourne was established at Collingwood in 2019 and conducted bespoke and engaging printmaking workshops. After moving to the Southbank studio in early 2022 Jackie is now focused on external printmaking workshops as an artist in residence and school and art societies incursion printmaking instructor. Jackie Jackson is an accomplished artist who is committed to sharing her knowledge of art practices and printmaking techniques with students from all age groups, educational facilities and experience levels.

Early Years

Jackie graduated with a Diploma in Graphic Design and Printmaking from Box Hill TAFE in the mid-nineties. Over 20+ years she established herself as a versatile graphic designer, and illustrator working in Australia as well as the United Kingdom across the private and public sector.

Having held exhibitions in Melbourne galleries, her first solo exhibition in 2009 was held at The Collingwood Gallery, she then went on to regularly exhibit at The Brunswick Street gallery, in solo exhibitions as well as entering various group exhibitions.

In 2011 she opened Exhibit Artist Space, a temporary art gallery and studio space in Kyneton where she curated exhibitions for established as well as up and coming artists before returning to Melbourne to continue her career as a printmaker and artist.

During a trip to Italy in 2019, a fortuitous visit to a printmaking studio in Venice reignited her passion for printmaking. On Jackie’s return to Melbourne, she opened Jax Studio Melbourne, printmaking and teaching full time to further developing her own style and drawing on the experience of Printmakers from around the world.

Workshops and Artist Residencies

Jackie holds a Training and Assessment qualification (TAE40116) from RMIT so is experienced at working with educators to put together catered lesson plans to suit their students requirements, age range and printmaking technique learning interests.

An experienced artist in residence, Jackie was selected to be the artist in residence at the Melbourne Royal Show in 2022. She has also held printmaking workshops for students at The Victorian Artist Society , Genazzano College and Scotch College.

Market Events

You can find Jackie at the iconic Queen Victoria Market (last Sat of the month) and The Kensington Market (3rd Sunday). Occasionally Jackie also attends other markets, these dates are announced via social media.

Sustainability

Jackie is passionate about sustainability and the environment and recognised the need for more eco-friendly studio practices without compromising traditional print quality and has moved into using linseed rather than petroleum-based inks and recycles all materials and ink to create her collage and botanical series artworks.
